#LifeInUnilag: Meet our Fashion Icon of the month – Akin Faminu! (Exclusive Interview)

This post could not have been better timed, don’t worry you would find out why soon enough.

The University of Lagos aka The University of First Choice and the Nation’s Pride is first  for various reasons, one of which is its wholesome experience both in academic and extracurricular activities. The first order of business in our fashion and style segment would be to examine the style of this individual whose name has become a brand on its own.

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the name Akin Faminu?

Yes! you are right, it is fashion related. Akin is arguably the most fashionable student in the University of Lagos (I wonder if it is much of an argument) assuming it is an argument there are a plethora of points that support it; he was the winner of the Unilag Awards (most fashionable male 2015) Campus Heat Awards (most fashionable male 2015) COMPSSA Awards (Most Fashionable Male)………………. Should I go on?

Even as a medical student he still finds time to do that which he is passionate about.

From experience and general survey; most fashionistas are more often than not handicapped in one area or the other but Akin is an all round fashionista, you never know what he is going to show up in… Today he hits you with the classic look and the next time you see him he is coming through in ‘agbada’ with his Yoruba demon swag on.

We interviewed Akin who was listed on Pulse Ng’s top 12 stylish Nigerian men of 2015 and here is how it went:
FULL NAME: Akin Faminu
STATE OF ORIGIN: Osun State
HOW DO YOU COMBINE FASHION AND LIFESTYLE WITH THE TEDIOUS WORKLOAD OF MEDICAL SCHOOL?
Well, time management mostly. I try to manage my time well, I don’t have the luxury of wasting it unnecessarily, and that helps me get things done. Also God’s favor is very important.
WHAT IS FASHION TO YOU?
I like to see fashion as my passion and having this defined also helps me to avoid clashing my passion with profession. Fashion is beyond clothes and what not, it’s an Art, one which I am passionate about.
WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES YOU FACE AS REGARDS YOUR LIFESTYLE?
Well, time is a major challenge, apart from that, not so much. Writing comes naturally to me so it’s not hectic per say, and well, events; I go when I have the time to.
WHAT INSPIRES YOUR STYLE?
My inspiration is not restricted to a particular person or event or thing generally, but rather from the Art itself; inspiration could come from anything, no restrictions.
ANY ROLE MODELS/MENTORS?
Everybody that is doing a remarkable job in the fashion scene, I don’t hesitate to doff my hat in respect.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT YOUR STYLE?
I’d define my style as Dapper, Exquisite and Detailed, Very detailed. A more diverse approach to personal style.

And that’s how our interview with Akin Faminu; Men’s Fashion Enthusiast, Stylist and Fashion blogger (at www.akinfaminu.com) went 🙂

He has been referred to as a Slayer, a Style god, a Fashionista ‘and what not'(lol he likes to use that word a lot on his blog.) We would simply refer to him as a really good artist because it takes a certain knowledge to modulate style on a steady progression such as his.

Hey!!! Its a birthday special… We at Life in Unilag want to wish him the very best on this special  day. Happy birthday Akin, God bless you.
